ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Accession of the United Kingdom to CPTPP

Okay kiddo, so the CPTPP stands for the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. It's basically a big group of countries that have agreed to work together to make trade (buying and selling things between countries) easier and better for everyone involved.

The United Kingdom (which is a country in Europe) wants to join this group to make it easier for their businesses to sell their products to other countries in the group.

But in order to join, the United Kingdom has to follow the rules that the other countries agreed upon when they first joined the group. It's kind of like a club - you can join, but you have to follow the club's rules.

The process of the United Kingdom joining the CPTPP is called "accession." It means that they have to go through a lot of meetings and negotiations with the other countries in the group to make sure they understand the rules and agree to follow them.

Once they do all of that, then they can officially become a member of the CPTPP and start enjoying the benefits of easier trade with the other countries in the group.
