ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Act (drama)

Imagine that you are part of a big game of pretend. You and your friends have decided to create a story where people talk, move and do things just like in real life. This is what we call a play or a drama.

In a drama, there are different parts that people play. These are called roles. Sometimes, the people playing the roles pretend to be someone they are not, like a prince or a superhero. Each role has lines that they have to say, and actions that they have to do to tell the story.

A drama is divided into smaller parts called acts. It's kind of like having different chapters in a storybook. Each act has a different story to tell or a different part of the big story. There are usually two or three acts in a play, but sometimes there can be more.

For example, in a play called "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", the first act might show how Snow White meets the dwarfs and how they become friends. The second act would show how the evil queen tries to hurt Snow White, and how the dwarfs help her. The last act would show how Snow White's Prince comes to save her, and how they all live happily ever after.

Overall, an act in a drama is like watching a mini story play out on stage.
