ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Advanced glycation end-product

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of sugar? When we eat sweets or foods with sugar in them, that sugar goes into our bodies and can stick to different parts of our body, like our skin or our organs.

When sugar sticks to things like our body's proteins, it can form something called "advanced glycation end-products" or "AGEs" for short.

These AGEs can be a problem because they can make the proteins in our bodies not work as well. This can cause problems with things like our eyes, kidneys, and blood vessels.

So it's important to be mindful of how much sugar we eat and also to try to eat foods that have natural sugars like fruits instead of added sugars like in candy. That way we can keep our bodies healthy and avoid too many AGEs building up in our systems.
