ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Advocate Depute

Okay kiddo, let me explain what an advocate depute is. Have you ever played a game where you have to defend something or someone? Well, an advocate depute is kind of like a person who defends the law in a court of law.

They work in Scotland, which is a country in Europe, and they have a very important job. They are lawyers who work for the government and their job is to make sure that people who break the law get punished.

When someone does something against the law, like stealing or hurting someone else, the advocate depute will try to prove it in court. They will use evidence, like witnesses who saw what happened or things that were found at the scene of the crime, to convince a jury that the person accused really did it.

It's a very serious job because if they don't do it well, people who are guilty might go free and that's not fair. So, an advocate depute is like a superhero who makes sure the bad guys pay for their crimes!
