ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Aerial insert

Imagine you are playing on the playground and you want to get up to the monkey bars. Instead of climbing up there yourself, a bigger, stronger friend comes along and picks you up and puts you on the bars.

An aerial insert is kind of like that, but for things that are too heavy or too high for a person to lift. It's when a helicopter or another aircraft flies up and puts something or someone down in a certain spot. It's like magic!

Say there is a group of people hiking in a really remote area and someone gets hurt. The only way to get them medical help quickly is by helicopter. The helicopter can fly in, hover (stay still in the air), and then lower a doctor or medical supplies down to the injured person.

Aerial insert is a way to move something or someone from one place to another without having to go through the usual roads or obstacles that make it difficult. It's a special skill that some pilots and aircraft crews have, and it can be really helpful in emergencies or when things need to be moved quickly and efficiently.
