ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Affirming Catholicism

Affirming Catholicism is kind of like saying you believe in God and want to follow Jesus, but you also think that it's okay to question things and have different opinions about some of the religious teachings.

It's like when you're learning about math in school and you have a question about how to solve a problem. You can ask your teacher and they might explain it to you in a way that makes sense. But if someone else in your class has a different way of solving the problem that also works, that's okay too - it's just a different approach.

In the same way, people who identify with Affirming Catholicism might have different ways of understanding and interpreting parts of the Bible or religious teachings. But they all agree on the basic principles of loving God and loving others.

So it's kind of like being a part of a big family where everyone loves each other, but they might have different ideas about how to do things or what some of the rules mean. But everyone still gets along and respects each other.
