Afro-Mexicans
Afro-Mexicans are people who have African ancestry and live in Mexico. Their ancestors came to Mexico hundreds of years ago as slaves, mostly from places like West Africa and Central Africa. The slaves worked in places like farms and towns, and over time some of them got their freedom and stayed in Mexico. Even though they were free, Afro-Mexicans faced a lot of discrimination and were not able to get the same rights as other people. Today, Afro-Mexicans are proudly embracing their culture and history, and are working to get more recognition and rights in Mexico.
