Afro-Mexicans in the Mexican War of Independence

Afro-Mexicans were people of African descent who were living in Mexico when the Mexican War of Independence happened in the early 1800s. During the war, these Afro-Mexicans fought alongside the other people living in Mexico against the Spanish who were trying to keep them under control. Afro-Mexicans died in the war to help Mexico gain it's independence and become a free country. Today, Afro-Mexicans are still a part of the Mexican community and have helped to shape and influence Mexico's history and culture.
