ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ahamkara

Ahamkara is an ancient Hindu philosophical concept. It is a Sanskrit word that literally means “I-maker.” In Hinduism, Ahamkara is thought to be the part of us that creates our sense of self and our identity. It helps us to recognize and identify our own thoughts, feelings, and desires. It is what makes us feel like our own person. Because of this, it is a powerful force and can be a positive or negative influence in our life. In Hinduism, Ahamkara is the part of us that can make us create attachments, desires and false identities that are rooted in ego. If we become too attached to these false identities, it can cause suffering. However, when we use Ahamkara in a healthy way, it can help us to create positive identities and feelings of love, peace and joy.
