Air defense identification zone

Hello kiddo! Have you ever been to an airport and seen a big, round radar screen with lots of planes on it? Well, sometimes countries have radar screens like that but for their whole country and not just one airport!

Now, imagine you're playing with your toys and someone else comes into your play area with some new toys. You might want to know who they are and what their toys are before you let them play with yours, right?

Countries do something similar to that. They want to know who all the airplanes and other flying things are that come into their area before they let them fly around. That way they can keep their country safe and make sure everything is okay.

So, they make something called an air defense identification zone (or ADIZ for short). That is an area of airspace that goes around a country where they can keep track of all the planes flying in and out. It's like a giant invisible bubble that helps the country see what's going on in their airspace.

And if a plane from another country wants to fly through that bubble, they have to tell the country they're flying into who they are, where they're coming from, and where they're going. That way everyone can be safe and play nicely together.
