ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Akira Suzuki (chemist)

Akira Suzuki is a very smart man who knows a lot about tiny things called molecules. Molecules are like building blocks that make up everything around us, like the toys we play with or the food we eat. Akira Suzuki loves to play with these building blocks and figure out new and interesting ways to put them together.

One thing that he did that was really amazing was figuring out how to put two different molecules together in a special way. This was kind of like putting together two different puzzle pieces that no one else knew how to fit. People had been trying to do this for a really long time, but no one could figure it out.

Finally, Akira Suzuki found out how to get them to stick together in a special reaction that he called the "Suzuki reaction." This was really cool because it helped scientists and chemists all over the world make new and useful things that we use every day, like the plastic bottles that hold our drinks or the medicine we take when we feel sick.

So Akira Suzuki is an important person because he helped us learn more about how things work at a very tiny level and made it possible to create new things that help us in our daily lives.
