ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Algerian War

The Algerian War was a very big conflict that happened a long time ago in a country called Algeria. Think of Algeria like your great-grandma's house that you might visit sometimes.

But a long time ago, people who lived in Algeria wanted to be in charge of their own country, like your mommy is in charge of your home. They didn't want other people from far away to tell them what to do.

But there were other people who disagreed with them. They lived far away and had their own ideas about how Algeria should be run. These people didn't like the idea of Algerians being in control. They wanted things to stay the way they were.

So, they started a big fight, called a war, and it went on for a long time. It was a really sad and tough time for everyone involved. People fought and died, and it was really hard for the people living in Algeria.

Eventually, after a lot of fighting and talking, Algeria became its own independent country. This meant that the people who lived there could make their own rules and be their own bosses. The Algerian War was a big part of that story.
