ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Allen Neuringer

Okay, so imagine you have a friend named Allen Neuringer. He is a really smart person who studies how animals behave.

He likes to watch animals, like rats or pigeons, and see how they react to different situations. For example, he might give the animals different kinds of food and see which ones they like best.

But Allen doesn't just watch the animals – he also teaches them things! He might train a rat to press a lever when it hears a certain sound, and then give it a treat when it does the right thing.

This is called "behavioral psychology," and it helps us understand how animals (and sometimes people) learn and adapt to their surroundings. Thanks for asking, kiddo!
