Allergies in dogs

Do you know how sometimes you eat something that makes your tummy feel yucky or you get itchy and sneezy? Well, dogs can feel the same way too! When a dog's body doesn't like something, it can have an allergic reaction.

Allergies in dogs happen when their body thinks something that's harmless is actually dangerous and tries to fight it off. Some dogs can be allergic to things like pollen, grass, or dust while others may be allergic to things in their food like chicken or beef.

When a dog has an allergic reaction, it may start to itch a lot, get red and bumpy skin, or have problems with its tummy like vomiting or diarrhea. Some dogs can also get really, really thirsty or breathe fast and have trouble breathing.

Luckily, there are ways to help dogs feel better when they have allergies. Sometimes a vet can give a dog medicine or shots that help it not feel so itchy or uncomfortable. Other times, changing the dog's food to something without the ingredients that cause the allergy can help a lot! It's important to talk to an adult, like your parents, if you notice your dog acting funny or seems uncomfortable so they can help get it the right kind of care from a vet.
