ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Alphabetic numeral system

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of the alphabet? It's what we use to write letters and words. The alphabetic numeral system is kinda like that, but instead of letters representing sounds, they represent numbers.

Each letter in the alphabet has an assigned number value. The first letter, "A", has a value of 1. The second letter, "B", has a value of 2, and so on. This means that the letter "Z" has a value of 26.

When we want to write a number using this system, we can use letters instead of traditional numbers. For example, if we want to write the number 5, we can use the letter "E", which is the fifth letter in the alphabet.

So, if we wanted to write the number 13, we would use the letters "M", because "M" is the 13th letter in the alphabet.

This system is used sometimes in cryptography or secret codes, as it can make it harder for others to understand the message. But in everyday life, we usually just use the regular number system with numbers from 0 to 9.

Hope that helps you understand the alphabetic numeral system!
