ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Alpine climbing

Alpine climbing is when you climb up really tall mountains with snow and ice on them. Imagine you are outside and you see a big, tall mountain that looks like a giant ice cream cone. Instead of using stairs or an elevator to go up it, you have to use special gear like ropes, harnesses, and ice axes. It's like playing a big game of monkey bars but way higher up and with lots of snow!

To do alpine climbing, you have to be really brave and strong. You also need to know how to use all of your gear safely and how to climb the right way so you don't slip and fall. Sometimes, climbers will spend the night on the mountain in a small tent because it's too hard to climb all the way up and back down in one day.

It's important to be very careful when you're alpine climbing because it can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. But if you do it safely, you'll get to see some really amazing views from the top of the mountain that most people never get to see!
