ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Alquerque

Alquerque is a game that people played a long, long time ago. It's kind of like checkers, but the board is different and the way you move the game pieces is a little different too.

The board is a grid with nine squares on each side. There are game pieces that you move around the board. You have twelve pieces, and your goal is to capture all of your opponent's pieces, or to get your pieces to the other side of the board.

When it's your turn, you can move one of your pieces one square in any direction, but only if there's an empty space next to it. But if there's an opponent's piece next to yours, you can jump over it and capture it! If you capture an opponent's piece, you get to keep it and they don't get it back.

The game is over when one player captures all of their opponent's pieces, or when one player can't make a legal move anymore. It's a fun game to play with friends or family, just like checkers or chess!
