Amarna Period

Okay kiddo, let me tell you about the Amarna Period.

A long long time ago, in a place called Egypt, there was a time where things were different than before. This time was called the "Amarna Period." During this time, there was a Pharaoh named Akhenaten (pronounced: Ah-ken-ah-ten) who ruled Egypt.

Now, Akhenaten was not like any other Pharaoh before him because he believed in only one god called the "Aton." This was very different than the other Egyptians who believed in many gods and goddesses.

Because of this belief, Akhenaten moved the capital of Egypt to a new city called "Amarna." He built many new buildings and temples there to worship the Aton.

During the Amarna Period, there were also changes in art and culture. The art became more realistic, showing people with big bellies and wrinkles instead of just perfect bodies. People also started to wear different types of clothes and jewelry.

But, sadly, the Amarna Period didn't last forever. When Akhenaten died, his son Tutankhamun (pronounced: Too-tan-kah-moon) took over and moved the capital back to the old city. People went back to worshiping many gods and goddesses and the art went back to the old style too.

So kiddo, that's the Amarna Period for you. A special time in Egypt when Akhenaten believed in only one god and changed the way people worshiped.
