why plants are green

Plants are green because of a special kind of chemical inside them called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll makes it possible for plants to turn sunlight into energy. The energy allows them to grow and make food for themselves. All the chlorophyll absorbs the colors red, orange, yellow and blue from the sunlight but reflects the color green, which is why they look green to us.
