ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Amateur wrestling

Okay kiddo, let me tell you about amateur wrestling.

So, you know those wrestlers you see on TV? Well, they're professional wrestlers, which means they get paid to wrestle. But in amateur wrestling, people mostly do it for fun and to compete with each other.

In amateur wrestling, you wear a special outfit called a singlet, which looks like a tight-fitting one-piece bathing suit. This is important because it helps your opponent get a good grip on you so that you two can wrestle better.

The goal of wrestling is to pin your opponent, which means getting them flat on their back with both of their shoulders touching the ground. You can also win by scoring more points than your opponent.

During a wrestling match, you and your opponent start on your feet and try to take each other down to the ground by grabbing each other and trying to get the other person off balance. Once you get your opponent to the ground, you can try to pin them or get more points by doing other moves like preventing them from standing back up or pushing them out of a circle on the mat.

Wrestling requires a lot of strength, quick thinking, and strategy, but it's a really fun and exciting sport to watch and participate in. Plus, it's a great way to stay fit and healthy!
