Amity-enmity complex

The amity-enmity complex is kind of like a game. It's when people have strong feelings about other people that are either positive or negative. Sometimes people are friends, so they feel positive (amity) towards each other, like they like and care about each other. Sometimes people aren't friends and don't like each other (enmity), so they feel negative towards each other. It's like a tug-of-war between positive and negative feelings, where no one wins.
