ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ampacity

Ampacity is the amount of electricity that can safely flow through a wire or cable without causing problems. Think of it like a water hose - if too much water flows through a small hose, it can burst or cause other problems. Similarly, if too much electricity flows through a wire, it can overheat and start a fire.

Different wires have different ampacities, depending on their size, length, and the material they're made of. Electricians need to know the ampacity of a wire to make sure they're using the right one for a particular job. They also need to make sure that the circuit they connect the wire to can handle the amount of electricity flowing through it.

So, ampacity is a way of making sure that electricity flows safely through wires and circuits, without causing any damage or danger.
