ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Anisometric verse

Imagine you have two squares. One is tall and skinny, while the other is short and fat. When we look at the shapes, we can see that they are different because they have different dimensions. One side is longer than the other, making them anisometric.

Anisometric verse is a type of poetry that plays with words to create uneven rhythms and sounds. Just like the two squares, the words in these poems are different lengths and can have different stresses or accents.

When we say a word with a stress or accent, we put a little extra emphasis on one syllable. Take the word "banana" for example. When we say it, we tend to pronounce the second syllable a little louder than the others - that's the stress. In anisometric verse, poets can use different syllables to create a unique rhythm and sound that makes the poem more interesting and fun to read.

Overall, anisometric verse is all about playing with words and creating something unique and different, just like those two squares!
