Apples to Apples

An "apples to apples" comparison means you are comparing two things in a fair way. It's like when you and your friend have a race, and you both start at the same time, from the same place, and run the same distance. That would be an "apples to apples" race because it's equal and fair. If your friend started earlier than you or had to run a longer distance, that wouldn't be an "apples to apples" comparison because it's not equal and fair.

So, when people say "apples to apples" about things other than races, they mean they want to compare two things fairly. Maybe they want to compare two different computers to see which one is better. They have to make sure they are comparing them fairly by looking at the same things, like the amount of memory or the speed of the processor. If they don't compare them fairly, it's like comparing a big apple to a small apple and saying the big one is better, even though it's not fair to the small apple.

So, "apples to apples" just means being fair and equal when comparing things.
