ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Appropriate technology

Appropriate technology is about using the right technology for the job. It means using simple tools, techniques, and materials that are available and affordable for the people you are trying to help. For example, if you were working in a developing country, you would need to think carefully about how to use limited resources in the most efficient way. You might not be able to use the same kind of machines that are used in richer countries, so you need to find a different solution. Appropriate technology means finding ways to solve problems, with the resources and skills that are available. It might mean small-scale solar panels, simple machines or low-cost materials instead of expensive or complicated technology.
