ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Aquilifer

Imagine you are a soldier in a big army. Everyone needs to know where to go and what to do. But it can be hard to keep track of everything when there are so many people around. That's where an aquilifer comes in!

An aquilifer is basically the person who carries a special flag called an aquila (which is like the army's mascot). This flag is very important because it represents the whole army. When soldiers see the aquila flying, they know where their group is and they feel proud to be a part of it.

The aquilifer has a big job because they need to be careful with the flag and make sure it doesn't get lost or damaged. They have to stay close to their commanding officer and follow them wherever they go. Sometimes, if the army is fighting in a battle, the aquilifer might even be in danger because they are such an important target for the enemy.

But the aquilifer isn't just important for practical reasons. They're also important for morale. When soldiers see the aquila flying high and see the aquilifer holding it with pride, they know they're a part of something bigger than themselves. And that's what being in an army is all about!
