Signifer

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a flag with pictures or symbols on it? A signifer is someone who carried a flag with pictures or symbols on it during Roman times. This person was an important part of the Roman military because they would help their fellow soldiers find their way in battle by holding up the flag or sometimes torches at night! The pictures on the flag would tell everyone what group of soldiers it belonged to, like a team jersey! So, basically, a signifer was a fancy-schmancy flag bearer who helped everyone stay organized and work together as a team.
