Arabic influence on the Spanish language

You see, a long long time ago, Spain was ruled by Muslim leaders from North Africa who spoke Arabic. They lived in Spain for centuries and during that time, they shared their language and culture with the people of Spain.

So, some of the words that are used in Spanish today are actually from the Arabic language! For example, the word "azul" which means blue or "alfombra" which means carpet are both from Arabic.

Even some of the ways Spanish-speaking people use grammar like how to use male and female endings on words, or certain phrases all have some Arabic influence!
