Ararat rebellion

Imagine you and your friends are playing a game, but one friend is always in charge and never lets anyone else make choices. You and your other friends start to feel upset and decide that you want to be in charge too. This is a bit like what happened in the Ararat Rebellion.

A group of people called Armenians lived in a place called Armenia, inside a bigger country called the Ottoman Empire. Like you and your friends, the Armenians were tired of not being able to make choices about what happened in their own community. They decided they wanted to break away from the Ottoman Empire and have their own government.

So in 1890, a man named Hampartsoum Boyadjian led a group of Armenians in a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire. They went to a mountain called Ararat and built a fortress there to protect themselves. They called it the Republic of Ararat.

Just like your parents or teacher might tell you that you can't have your own way all the time, the Ottoman Empire wasn't happy about the Armenians trying to break away. They sent their army to stop the rebellion and the fighting lasted for several months.

In the end, the Ottoman Empire won the battle and the rebellion ended. Many Armenians were killed or had to flee their homes. While the Armenians didn't get their own government at that time, it was a step towards getting their voice heard and eventually gaining independence in 1918.
