Arcade (architecture)

An arcade is a type of architecture that is made up of many tall, connected buildings with stores and walkways in between them. This type of architecture was very popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s, especially in cities like New York and Chicago. The stores often had big windows so that people walking by could see the items inside. There were also wide walkways between the buildings so that people could walk around, shop, and hang out.
