So, a long time ago, there was a guy named Arius who had some ideas about God and Jesus that other people didn't agree with. Arius believed that Jesus was not actually God, but was created by God and was therefore not equal to God. This made a lot of people angry because they believed that Jesus was God and should be treated as such.
Some people even started fighting over this issue because they felt very strongly about it. Eventually, a big meeting was held to try to figure out what to believe about Jesus. This meeting was called the Council of Nicaea.
At the Council of Nicaea, lots of smart people got together to talk about what they believed about Jesus. They talked for a really long time and eventually came up with something called the Nicene Creed. This was a statement that said Jesus was indeed God and was equal to God the Father.
Some people were still not happy with this idea, though, and they continued to argue about it for a long time. This disagreement became known as the Arian Controversy and it lasted for many years.
In the end, most Christians accepted the idea that Jesus was God and that he was equal to God the Father. But there are still some people today who believe the ideas that Arius put forth.
