ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ariel Award

Imagine you're having a competition with your friends to see who can draw the best picture. Now, let's say you drew the best picture of all your friends. You might get a prize or trophy for being the best drawer!

Well, in Mexico, there's something similar for movies called the Ariel Award. It's a prize given to the best movies made in Mexico each year. It's kind of like a big pat on the back for the people who made the movie.

People who work in movies like directors, actors, writers, and composers can win an Ariel Award if they did their job really well. It's a way to recognize their hard work and the great movies they made.

The Ariel Award is named after a little mermaid from a storybook. In the story, the mermaid could do amazing things like sing beautifully and swim really fast. The people who started the Ariel Award thought that movies were kind of like magic too, so they named the prize after the mermaid.

Winning an Ariel Award is a big deal because there are lots of movies made in Mexico each year, and not all of them can win! So if a movie wins an Ariel Award, it means it's one of the best movies in the country that year.
