Arithmetic mean

The arithmetic mean is a fancy way of saying "average." When you want to find the average of a bunch of numbers, you add them all up and then divide by how many numbers you have.

For example, if you have three numbers 4, 8, and 12, you add them up (4 + 8 + 12 = 24) and then divide by how many numbers you have, which is 3. So the arithmetic mean (or average) of these three numbers is 8 (because 24 divided by 3 is 8).

The arithmetic mean is helpful because it gives you a way to quickly summarize a group of numbers. It can help you see if the numbers are generally high or low and can be used to make comparisons between different groups of numbers.
