Artificial conversational entity

Okay kiddo, imagine you have a robot friend who can talk to you just like your human friends do. This type of robot is called an Artificial Conversational Entity or ACE for short.

Now, this robot friend has been programmed to understand what you say to it, and it can respond to you using some clever computer tricks. The robot uses something called Natural Language Processing (NLP) to understand what you’re saying. It tries to work out the meaning of your words, even if they’re not very clear or you’ve made a mistake.

When the robot understands what you’ve said, it uses two things called speech synthesis and text-to-speech to respond to you. That means it can talk to you in a real voice, just like a human would, or it can write to you in text on a screen or in a chat window.

These robots can be helpful in lots of different ways. For example, you can chat with them to get help with your homework, or ask them to tell you a story. They can even help you learn a new language or tell you jokes. However, you should never share any personal information with them because they can’t understand the consequences of revealing sensitive information.
