ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Artillery observer

An artillery observer is kind of like a person who helps a big group of army soldiers shoot their guns accurately. They're not the ones shooting the guns, but they're like the captain of the team and they make sure everyone is doing their job right.

Imagine you're playing a game of tag with your friends, but instead of just running around and tagging each other, you have water guns to shoot each other. You and your friends need to aim your guns really well so you can hit each other from far away.

But it's hard to see where your friends are when they're far away, so you might need someone to help you aim your water gun. That person is kind of like an artillery observer. They can see where your friends are from somewhere high up, like on top of a hill or in a tower, and they can tell you where to aim your water gun so you can hit them better.

An artillery observer does the same thing, but with bigger guns and with real bullets instead of water. They use special equipment to see where the bad guys are and they tell the soldiers where to point their guns so they can shoot accurately and hit their target. This is especially important if there are lots of bad guys or if the bad guys are far away and hard to see. By being an artillery observer, they help their team win battles and stay safe.
