ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Asha

ASHA stands for American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. It is a group of people who help kids and adults with problems in speaking, listening, and hearing.

Think of your mouth like a big, complicated instrument that helps you talk, sing, and make all sorts of sounds. Sometimes, that instrument doesn't work the way it should, and people need help to fix it. That's where ASHA comes in!

ASHA has lots of experts, called speech-language pathologists and audiologists, who can help teach you how to make sounds and how to understand what other people are saying. They work with kids who have trouble pronouncing certain words, or who can't say some sounds at all. They also help people who have trouble understanding what others are saying or who don't hear sounds the same way that most of us do.

ASHA experts use all sorts of fun games and activities to help you practice speaking and listening. They might play games with rhyming words, for example, or practice making silly sounds. They might also use special machines to test your hearing and figure out if you need hearing aids.

The goal of ASHA is to make sure everyone can communicate with each other and understand what others are saying. That's why they work hard to help people who have trouble speaking, listening, or hearing.
