ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ashik

Okay, so imagine you have a bunch of pictures in a book, and you want to find a specific picture without having to go through the whole book. That's what a computer program called a "search engine" does on the internet.

Now, sometimes when you visit a website, a little pop-up box might appear asking if you want to receive notifications from that site. This is called an "ashik". It's kind of like asking if you want to be friends with that website and if you want the website to send you messages when something new is posted or when there's a special deal going on.

Just like with friends, you can say "yes" or "no" to being friends with a website and getting notifications from them. If you say "yes", the website will be able to send you messages and notifications even when you're not on their website.

So, an ashik is just a way for websites to ask if you want to receive notifications from them.
