Aspirant state

An aspirant state is a country that is not officially recognized by the United Nations, but wants to be. Examples of aspirant states are Northern Cyprus and Kosovo. These places have their own government and laws, but they are not part of a larger country or they split off from a larger country. They do not have the same rights or recognition as countries that are members of the United Nations.
