ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Associative entity

An associative entity is like a bridge that connects different entities, or types of things. It links two other entities together in a relationship. Imagine two islands located far apart. To get from one island to the other, there needs to be a bridge connecting them. That bridge is the associative entity. It links the two islands and allows people to get from one to the other. It's the same with entities - the associative entity links different entities together and allows them to be related to each other.
