ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Atlantic Data Base for Exchange Processes at the Deep Sea Floor

Okay kiddo, so you know how there are different parts of the ocean and they all have different creatures living in them? Well, imagine there is a big library where scientists keep all the information they learn about the deep, dark parts of the ocean floor. That library is called the Atlantic Database for Exchange Processes at the Deep Sea Floor.

Inside the library, there are lots and lots of bookshelves filled with information all about the ocean. But instead of books, there are these things called databases on computers. These databases are like big boxes where scientists put all the information they find so they don't forget it.

The scientists who study the ocean put things in the database like how fast the water moves underwater, what temperatures they find in different places, what kinds of creatures live there, and how much food they eat. They can also put in pictures, graphs, and maps to help understand the information better.

Now, because the ocean is so big and there are so many things to learn, scientists all over the world can share their information by putting it in the database. This helps them all work together and figure out things quicker.

By using this big library of information, scientists can learn and discover more about the ocean floor and help protect the creatures that live there. And isn't that pretty cool, little buddy?
