ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Axel Honneth

Axel Honneth is a man who studies how people treat each other and how that affects their feelings. Just like how we are taught to treat others kindly and fairly, Honneth believes that this behavior can help us feel happier and more secure in our relationships.

He thinks that people need three things to feel good in their relationships. The first is to feel respected by others. This means that people treat you like you matter and listen to you when you talk. The second is to feel loved, which means that people care about you even if you make mistakes. And finally, people need to feel that they have power in their relationships. This means they can make decisions for themselves and have control over what happens to them.

Honneth also believes that if people don't feel respected, loved, or powerful in their relationships, then they can develop negative feelings like anger or sadness. But, if we try to treat others with these three qualities in mind, we can help each other feel better and have healthier relationships.

Overall, Axel Honneth thinks that treating others with respect, love, and giving them power is really important in life. And, by doing so, we can make our relationships better and feel happier.
