ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Balance of plant

Alright kiddo, so you know how when you want to build a house, you need more than just the walls and roof? You need things like plumbing and electricity to make it work properly. Just like that, when it comes to building a power plant, you need more than just the part that generates electricity.

The balance of plant, or BOP for short, is all the stuff that's needed to make a power plant work, besides the actual generator that makes the electricity. This includes things like the pipes that bring fuel to the power plant, the cooling systems that keep the plant from overheating, and the control systems that make sure everything runs smoothly.

It's kind of like a big puzzle, where all the pieces have to fit together perfectly for the power plant to work properly. You need the BOP to make sure all the pieces are there and working together smoothly.

So basically, the balance of plant is everything that's not the electricity-making part of a power plant. It's the support system that keeps the power plant working the way it should.
