ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Balmer's Constant

Okay, so you know when you play with a toy that has different colors of light on it? Like maybe it has a button you can press and it changes from red to green to blue and so on?

Well, scientists also study colorful light, but they have to be really careful and use special tools to measure it. They found out that when certain things called "atoms" give off light, the colors they make are special and can be measured in a particular way.

These colors are kind of like a secret code that atoms use to tell scientists what they're made of and how they behave. And one of the ways scientists measure this code is by using something called Balmer's constant.

It's a special number that helps them figure out the wavelengths of the colors in the atom's secret code. Scientists use it to help them understand how atoms work, which can help them create new things or solve problems in science and technology. So Balmer's constant is like a secret key that helps scientists unlock the secrets of atoms!
