Banded mail

Hey there kiddo, have you ever seen a knight in a movie or in a picture book? Do you notice the cool shiny metal armor they wear that protects them from being hurt in battle?

Well, one type of armor called banded mail is made of metal rings or circles that are linked together to form a shirt-like covering that the knights wear over their bodies.

But here's the interesting part, the metal rings are not all the same size, some are larger and some are smaller. So when the rings are grouped together, they form diagonal bands or stripes across the armor. That's why it is called banded mail.

It is just like how your t-shirts can have stripes on them. Only in this case, the stripes are made up of metal rings.

This type of armor was mostly used by knights during the medieval times and it was heavy and hard to move in, but it kept the knights safe from enemy attacks.
