Bandi Chhor Divas

Alright kiddo, let me explain what Bandi Chhor Divas means.

So, have you ever heard of a place called India? Yes? Okay, so a long time ago, India was ruled by a very powerful king named Emperor Akbar. He had a friend named Birbal who was very smart and wise.

Now, there was another king called Jahangir who had a son named Prince Khusrau. Prince Khusrau was very popular among the people of India and he was loved by everyone. But the emperor, out of jealousy, did not like him and he was put in jail.

One day, when Emperor Jahangir went hunting, Birbal went to visit Prince Khusrau in jail. He noticed that Prince Khusrau was very sad and he wanted to do something to cheer him up. So, he came up with a plan to help him escape from jail.

Birbal dressed up as a saint and went to the jail. He called out to God and said, “O God, please grant freedom to all the prisoners who have been wrongly imprisoned.” Suddenly, the walls of the jail fell apart and Prince Khusrau was able to escape.

This day is celebrated as Bandi Chhor Divas or the Day of Liberation. It is a very important day for people who follow the Sikh religion. They celebrate it by going to the temple, singing hymns, and distributing sweets.

So, that’s what Bandi Chhor Divas is all about. It’s a day when people remember the brave prince who was wrongly imprisoned and the saint who helped him escape.
