Banjarmasin riot of May 1997
Okay kiddo, in May 1997 there was a big problem in a city called Banjarmasin in Indonesia. Some people were very upset with the government and wanted things to change. They started to protest and became very angry. They started to hurt people and damage buildings. This is called a riot.
The government was worried about the people’s safety so they called in the army to help. The army tried to stop the violence and get the people to calm down. There were many people hurt and some people even died.
After some time, the government and the people started talking and finding ways to work together to make things better. It took some time, but eventually things got better and people were able to live safely again.
