Barabbas was a man who lived a long time ago in a place called Jerusalem. He is an important person in the story of Jesus because he was involved in something called a "trial."
A trial is when a group of important people decide if someone is guilty or not guilty of doing something wrong. In this case, Barabbas was accused of a crime and was going to be punished by being put in jail or worse.
But something strange happened. There was another man named Jesus who was also on trial around the same time. Jesus was accused of doing something wrong too, but there were many people who thought he was not guilty and did not deserve to be punished.
So, the group of important people asked the crowd who they wanted to be punished, Barabbas or Jesus. And a lot of people shouted out that they wanted Barabbas to be set free, and Jesus to be punished.
So, even though Barabbas was probably guilty of a crime, he was set free because of the crowd's request. This story helps show how people can have different opinions and ideas about what is right and what is wrong.
