ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Beatmixing

Okay, so beatmixing is kind of like playing with two toys at the same time. Imagine you have two toy cars, and you want to make them drive together smoothly.

When a DJ is beatmixing, they are playing two songs at the same time, and they want them to match up perfectly so that you can barely tell they're different songs. They use a special tool called a turntable (or a computer program that acts like one) to control the speed of each song.

The DJ will listen to the beats of both songs and adjust the speeds until they match up. It's like making sure both toy cars are going the same speed so they can drive in a straight line side by side.

Once the beats match up, the DJ can slowly fade out one song and bring the other one in, so the music changes smoothly without any sudden stops or starts. Just like if you were playing with your two toy cars, and you wanted one to drive off while the other one comes in, you would do it slowly and carefully to make it look really cool.

Overall, beatmixing is like dancing with two songs at the same time and making them work together really nicely. It's a skill that takes a lot of practice, but it's really fun to listen to when a DJ does it well!
