Okay kiddo, so when we drink beer, we expect it to taste good, right? But sometimes, things go wrong during the making or storing of beer and it can make the beer taste bad. These bad tastes are called "beer faults."
One fault that can happen is when beer gets too much of a certain kind of bacteria in it. This bacteria can make the beer taste sour, like vinegar or spoiled fruit. Another fault is when yeast doesn't do its job right and leaves behind a kind of taste that's a little bit bitter or weird. This is called "diacetyl."
Sometimes, when the beer is brewing or being transported, it can get too much air in it, which can make it taste "skunky." This means it smells a little bit like a skunk! This is especially common in beers that come in clear or green bottles instead of brown ones.
Finally, there's a fault called "lightstruck" which happens when the beer is exposed to too much light. This can make the beer taste a little bit like wet cardboard or paper. So, next time you drink a beer and it doesn't taste quite right, it might be because of a beer fault!
