Beijing city fortifications

Hi there little one,

Do you know what a fortification is? It's like a really strong wall that goes all the way around a city to keep it safe.

Now, Beijing is a big city in China that has been around for a very long time, even longer than your grandparents! Back in the old days, Beijing had really important people that lived there, like emperors and their families.

To keep these important people safe, the city was surrounded by huge and strong walls with gates and watchtowers. Inside the walls, there were also many different buildings like palaces, temples, and houses.

These walls were built a very long time ago, even before cars and planes existed! They were made using special bricks and stones that were stacked together carefully to make sure they were strong.

Beijing's city fortifications were so big and strong that they could protect the people inside from enemy attacks like arrows and spears. These fortifications helped make Beijing a safe and prosperous city, and they're still an important part of its history and culture today.

So that's it, little one, Beijing's city fortifications were like a big, strong wall that helped keep important people safe a long, long time ago. Pretty cool, huh?
